The Lírio, a Lily flower in Portuguese, is enfolded within an elaborate vine; in the form of a Moorish arabesque. While Baroque left a stronger visual mark in Brazil, the Moors’ aesthetic does carry through in tile designs. I have always wondered what would colonial Brazilian architecture look like if the muslim influence was more dominant. The resulting look is ornamental, while the color schemes offer a variety of looks: bold, floral or subtle.
